Soon after winning the tender for design, fabrication and deployment of South West Artificial Reefs in Western Australia (WA), Haejoo Group has showcased its expertise in sustainable artificial reef technology by successfully completing the first trial of purpose-built artificial reefs in the state.

Two Artificial Reefs have been installed off Bunbury and Dunsborough to enhance fishing in Geographe Bay, WA. Each artificial reef is made of 30 ten-tonne reinforced concrete modules, Haejoo’s own “Fish Box” units placed in six clusters in the four hectares reef area.

One of the “Fish Box” purpose-built artificial reef units have been donated to the City of Busselton and is displayed at a Quindalup boat ramp for the local communities to be able to touch and feel the artificial reef unit installed in the bay. Official opening was held at the boat ramp with Hon Troy Buswell MLA, the Minister for Fisheries in WA on April 19, 2013.

Haejoo Group will continue to work with the Department of Fisheries and Recfishwest participating in the long term monitoring plan for the artificial reef trial in efforts to providing sustainable solutions for the future purpose-built artificial reefs in WA.
